Correspondence to Alma Mahler and Franz Werfel, 1941-1950.

In his letters Broch mentions the founding of a league of "Loyal Americans of German Descent" (in 1941); congratulates Werfel on the success of his novel The Song of Bernadette; thanks him for a contribution in connection with the death of the author Franz Blei (1942); and comments at points on his life at Yale University. His last two letters to Alma Mahler (1948 and 1950) concern her allowing him use of an apartment during his stays in New York City.

Austrian writer Hermann Broch was born in Vienna on November 1, 1886. His major works include Die Schlafwandler (1930-32), Bergroman (1935-1951), and Der Tod des Vergil (1945).
