Correspondence to Alma Mahler, 1945.

A condolence letter upon the death of Franz Werfel. Born recalls having drawn Werfel nearly twenty years before, on a commission from Reclams Universum; and having seen him for the last time for an evening in St. Louis following a lecture of Werfel's in 1941, on the day of Pearl Harbor. He notes that the St. Louis episode found an echo in Werfel's story "Die wahre Geschichte vom wiederhergestellten Kreuz."
