Stokowski began transcribing orchestral music for the organ but ultimately created many new arrangements for the orchestra in the course of his conducting career. At times his interpretations offer dramatic new conceptions of both familiar and unfamiliar works. Stokowski considered transcription an art and an integral part of his musicianship.
