From the intermission of a broadcast of "Toscanini, The Man Behind the Legend," an NBC radio series. Kostelanetz discusses his first contact with Toscanini, consulting on how to fill the end of Toscanini's radio broadcasts in 1930 and deciding to do it with transcriptions for men's chorus; old recordings; attending Toscanini rehearsals; Toscanini's comments on Kostalanetz's conducting of the New York Philharmonic after Toscanini had moved on to the NBC Symphony Orchestra; and two pictures given by Toscanini to Kostalanetz.

André Kostelanetz (1901-1980) was born in Russia and studied in Petrograd before coming to the USA. He became a successful conductor and arranger, and in 1930 was engaged as conductor for the CBS radio network, beginning a long association with broadcasting and film work. He is credited with popularizing classical music. He made many successful arrangements of light music, using heavily concentrated instrumental sonorities, and his orchestrations had a direct influence on film music of the time...

Born in Staten Island, N.Y., Benjamin Franklin Grauer (1908-1977) had a prosperous career as a child actor in the 1920s, both in film and on Broadway. He graduated from Townsend Harris Hall High School, the preparatory school for City College of New York, and he received his B.A. from City College in 1930.
