Includes 205 letters written to Walter R. T. Jones from family, friends, and business associates, genealogical notes, clippings, documents confirming marriage of Annie P. Bailey and Walter R. T. Jones, and New-York Historical Society membership, 1848-1855; and 22 letters from Walter R. T. Jones to family and business associates, 1851. Most of the letters were written during Jones's travels abroad when he was supervising the sale of cargo from the whaling ships Sheffield and Tuscarora. Other major topics include the family history and his cultural experiences while travelling. It appears that genealogical facts gathered in England and Ireland contributed to John H. Jones's book "The Jones Family of Long Island" (1907).
