Journal inscribed "The property of Mercator Cooper at sea in the ship Andes Captain Maxwell Griffing, Master bound from the coast of Patagonia to Sag Harbor, Feb. 7, 1823." The journal records four voyages: the ship Andes from Patagonia to Sag Harbor, N.Y., 1822-1823; the ship Beaver of New York bound to Canton, China, Frederick W. Depoister, Captain, 1825; the ship Argonaut of Sag Harbor on a whaling voyage to the coast of Patagonia, Uriah Sayre, Captain, 1828-1829; and the ship Cadmus of Sag Harbor on a whaling voyage to the coast of Patagonia, Captain George Howell, Master, 1829.
