Diaries, photographs, genealogical records, programs, clippings and other papers of Howard C. Sherwood, including photographs of friend and classmates at Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University, 1880's and 1890's; family photos, 1860's to 1940's; travel diaries with photos, of trips to the British Isles, Europe, California and various cruises, 1920's and 1930's; other diaries and typed autobiographical memoirs, 1870-1955. Papers relating to the Sherwood-Jayne house include guest books, an inventory of furnishings, a register of sheep kept on the farm, and a logbook of winter visits to the house, 1908-1942. There are also family Bibles with genealogical information; and miscellaneous poetry, programs, postcards and clippings.

Howard Cocks Sherwood (1870-1957) was a founder of the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities.
