Deeds, land surveys, letters, insurance papers, bonds, mortgages, promissory notes, receipts, bills, agreements, wills and estate papers, genealogy, poetry manuscripts, record books, account books, diaries, and other miscellaneous items of the Mott and Appleby families of Nassau County, N.Y. and New York City. Of note are letters of the Mott family, 1744-1915, concerning activities of the Friends, business and financial matters, and raising of horses; letters of the Appleby family, 1776-1842, largely concerning business matters with some mention of influx of immigrants (1816), Tammany Hall meeting (1828), and cholera in New York (1832); record book of the deaths of Samuel and Mary Willis and their descendants from 1782-1919; poems, largely composed and copied by Abigail, Jane, and Mary Mott, 1734-1790; cow and horse breeding records kept by the Mott family, 1882-1924; ciphering book of John Appleby, 1802; and account books of Thomas Appleby, Samuel Mott, Thomas Mott, Silas Mott, and others, 1806-1884.
