The bulk of these papers are letters amongst J.J. Latting, his sister Ethelinde Deall, her children W.S. Deall and Caroline Deall, and her nephew John J. Latting. Included are letters by J.J. Latting and W.S. Deall in Mantangas, Cuba, to family in New York City and Ticonderoga, N.Y., 1817, 1821-1822, and 1831, describing life and people there, Deall's dissatisfaction with his uncle, social life, and the illness and death of Deall; other letters, 1803-1859, concern health, deaths, marriages, land, family difficulties, fear of British attack at Ticonderoga (1813), and Lafayette in New York City (1824), and include two letters from Emma Willard to former pupil Caroline Deall about the death of her brother W.S. Deall, 1822.
