Preprinted spine reads "Montauk Register 1819" and cover is inscribed "Wamponomon the Indian Name of Montauk," the book contains comments written by visitors, 1825-1857; invoices to Sarah B. Nicoll and Jonathan Fish, 1833; register book marked "Light House Montauk Point 1830" with "Wamponomon" inscribed on cover, with comments written by visitors and a poem, "Lights and Shadows of Montauk" which was dedicated to the Countess Melvin.... The Lady of Hempstead, 1830-1857. Also, a loose petition to Jonathan Conklin of East Hampton regarding the disadvantages of the rapid turnover of government officials, 1829.
