Letters, manuscripts, broadsides, and other documents concerning the colonial and Revolutionary periods, mostly in New York. Most items are 19th century manuscript copies or 20th century photostats of documents in various British repositories. Included are copies of letters from Thomas Hassell about Indian wars in South Carolina, 1715; a transcript, 1832, of patent of John Winthrop to land on Long Island, 1680; letter of Rufus Putnam to George Washington with a plan of defensive works for Cobble Hill, Brooklyn; order of Governor Jonathan Trumbull of Connecticut to Christopher Leffingwell to evacuate inhabitants of Long Island to Connecticut, 1776; and a letter regarding prisoners of war, 1778.
