Papers of cadets and other military personnel relating to their experiences at West Point, their military careers, or their wartime experiences in the military. Types of papers include military documents, letters, diaries and journals, class notebooks, reminiscences and autobiographies, scrapbooks, memorabilia, photographs, reports, speeches, maps, orderly books from the American Revolution, account books and other financial records, manuscripts on military topics or military history, and broadsides. Military events covered include the American Revolution, War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, conflicts with Native Americans in Florida and the West, World Wars I and II, the Korean conflict, and the United States military presence in the Philippines and China. Many collections also concern the experiences of military wives and families.

West Point, N.Y., was originally utilized as a strategic defense location during the American Revolution. West Point is geographically located on a 100 ft. plateau overlooking the Hudson River. After the American victory Congress created a Corps of Invalids (veterans) that were transferred to West Point for the purpose of instructing candidates for commission.
