Papers consist of photocopies of McCrea's handwritten draft memoirs of his career with emphasis on his duties as Naval Aide to Roosevelt, 1971-1973; photocopies of an oral history interview with McCrea entitled "Setting up Map Room in White House and other incidents in connection with service there;" and original holograph drafts of messages by Roosevelt and Harry Hopkins to George C. Marshall, July 10-14, 1942.
