Records of Archbold Expeditions consist of correspondence; administrative records; journals of Richard Archbold, Leonard Brass, and Fred Tate; records of observations and notes; reports; logbooks; manuscripts; and public relations material. In addition, lists and number of specimens collected, ledger books and financial records, collecting permits, equipment and supply lists, and research proposals. Also, logbook and construction specifications for Richard Archbold's airplane used on expeditions, and a series of scrapbooks containing news clippings about Archbold's many expeditions, 1934-1956.

Brass was born in Toowoomba, Queensland on May 27, 1900. He is especially known for his plant collecting in New Guinea. One of his interests was in the relationship between the floras of New Guinea and Australia. He collected plants for the Arnold Arboretum in New Guinea, 1925-1926 and in the Solomon Islands, 1932.
