Alice Chandler was born in Theft River Falls, Minnesota on October 24, 1896. She grew up in Bemidji and Crookston, Minnesota and received her degree in English from the University of Minnesota about 1920. Alice taught high school in Toppenish and Wenatchee, Washington; she was also one of the original Foster "Girls" from Foster Travel Service from about 1924 to 1930.
