Collection primarily consists of personal and family correspondence of Russell and his wife Mary Wead Russell including their courtship letters discussing their ideas on marriage and love, 1830-1832; Russell's letters to Mary concerning family matters, her health, and news of friends, 1833-1846; and letters from the Wead family and other friends, 1835-1837. Other letters include two letters from Russell to Edwin Dodge of Gouverneur concerning legal cases and arguments, 1851, and miscellaneous business letters to Russell, 1832-1840. Other items include a transcript of a trial, 1843; biography of Russell, ca. 1890; deeds; minutes of the Canton Lyceum, 1856-1857; family photographs, ca. 1880-ca. 1940; clippings concerning career and family matters of Leslie W. Russell, 1909-1914; and an editorial by Leslie W. Russell, 1901.
