Parish-Rosseel correspondence, 1761-1880, 1807-1816 (bulk)

Primarily correspondence of Joseph Rosseel (1782-1863) with David Parish (1778-1826) and George Parish (1780-1839) concerning land and business matters, the development of Ogdensburg, the War of 1812, and other aspects of Rosseel's management of the Parish interests; other correspondents include John Parish, Hercules Ross, Femme Le Ray, Edward Ross, James Le Ray de Chaumont, David Ogden, John Ross, Jean Rosseel, and Louis Rosseel. There are also Joseph Rosseel's courtship letters to his wife Louisa Miller Rosseel and personal letters after their marriage with news of local people and events. Other items include power of attorney to Joseph Rosseel, agreements, deeds, land records, receipts, 1761-1805, and the will of George Parish (1807-1881) naming his nephew Oscar Parish (1864-1925) his heir, 1880.

David A. Ogden was born in Morristown, N.J. He attended King's College (Columbia University) and later became a lawyer. David A. John Ross was born October 3, 1790 in Alabama. He was one-eight Cherokee, seven-eights Scottish. He grew up and was educated in a traditional school in Kingston, Tennessee.
