Ships and shipping collection, 1709-1962, 1709-1907 (bulk)

Collection pertains to sailing ships and steamships, most of which were involved in trade or passenger enterprises in New York City. Many papers regard sailing vessels transporting goods to the West Indies and elsewhere, and consist of financial records such as invoices, account of sales, and receipts; bills of lading and other shipping papers; a ship's manifest; ship's papers for the CENTURION; certificate of owning shares of stock; and logs of clipper ships, 1852-1856. Papers pertaining to steamships include financial records, announcements of sailings, testimonial establishing the New York and Liverpool United States Mail Steamship Company, 1851; logs of steamships, 1862-1863; time tables; passenger lists, 1882-1893; and invitations to events and other public related papers. Also, towing and pier charge receipts for a barge, 1868-1884; and a photograph album and company magazines of the Morse Dry Dock and Repair Company, ca. 1918.
