Comprehensive collection consisting of photographs, photocopies of photographs, news clippings, brochures, reproductions of prints and some originals, periodicals, and booklets about a wide variety of subjects relating to New York City history. Photographs depict street scenes, some including people, as well as interiors and exteriors of buildings, architecture, aviation, elevated railroads, horsecars, streetcars, automobiles, fires, hospitals, housing, immigration, monuments and statues, New York World's Fairs, parades, ships and shipping, sports, Statue of Liberty, and subways. Also, files on bridges, canals and islands, and aerial and skyline views. In addition, 51 scrapbooks compiled by Judson H. Hayward consisting of notes, news clippings, and photographs taken by Hayward concerning historic buildings, churches, ships, and streets in Manhattan, 1935-1956.
