Included are correspondence, reports, minutes, memoranda, contracts, and some miscellaneous other types of documents from the department's Office of the Secretary-General, 1946-1950; Bureau of General Services, 1946-1951; and the Bureau of Documents. These concern the arrangement of General Assembly meetings and other meetings and conferences, language and document services, the management of buildings, transportation, and other logistical services which this office provided for the United Nations Secretariat and various United Nations conferences and meetings.

In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B. Wehmeyer-formed a committee and wrote a letter to 154 public figures asking for their opinions about the possibility of the creation of a world government.
