Edmund Otis Hovey was a geologist and museum curator. He joined the American Museum of Natural History in 1894 as assistant curator in the Dept. of Geology and Paleontology, becoming associate curator in 1901 and curator in 1910. He was also acting administrator of the museum for two brief periods. Hovey's main areas of interest were volcanoes, earthquakes and meteorites. William Diller Matthew was a vertebrate paleontologist and geologist. Matthew joined the American Museum of Natural History in 1895 as an assistant in the Dept. of Vertebrate Paleontology, eventually becoming curator in 1911. At the death of E.O. Hovey in 1924, Matthew was appointed acting curator of the Dept. of Geology.
