Collection encompasses photocopies of Burden's manuscripts for several publications, including BIG GAME OF THE KENAI PENINSULA, which relates to his adventures in Alaska during 1919; and a manuscript relating his experiences collecting Komodo dragons in China, and notes about these animals. Most other papers in collection are original and include Burden's log describing his hunting trip to North China, 1920s; and letters he wrote to his mother and others from Peking and Tientsin, China. A letter from Roy Chapman Andrews discusses his and Burden's experiences in China during the political turmoil of 1926. Other correspondence written from an expedition to Nairobi, Kenya. Papers regarding Burden's involvement with films include reviews, publicity releases and other information pertaining to Burden's film "The Silent Enemy" about Ojibway Indians of Canada's northwest. Also, correspondence with Ilya Tolstoy concerning production of films and other topics, 1938-1939. Papers also relate to his Komodo dragon films. Manuscripts and information concerning Burden's plays, "The Wilderness Road" and "Pauline Bonapart;" and information regarding articles he wrote for a journal published by the American Museum of Natural History.

W. Douglas Burden was a geologist, naturalist, hunter, filmmaker and author, affiliated with the American Museum of Natural History.
