William Campbell Steere records, 1927-1983.

Records include correspondence, subject files, reports, printed material, minutes of staff meetings, 1973-1977, and speeches reflecting the administration of the NYBG, ca.1950-1972. Also included is Steere's correspondence as President of the American Association of Museums, 1968-1970, and Systematic Biology Collections questionnaires completed by systematic biologists, containing their responses to questions about their research and work conditions, 1968. Later records reflect Steere's tenure as President Emeritus and Senior Scientist. Organizations represented include Conference Board on Scientific and Technical Information, 1960's; Committee on Scientific and Technical Communication, 1960's; Council on Biological Sciences; Organization for Tropical Studies; Council of Biology Editors; and many others. Also included is correspondence from Steere's academic career at the University of Michigan Department of Botany, 1927-ca.1950; and at Stanford University Department of Biological Sciences, ca.1950-1958; and correspondence concerning Steere's biology textbooks, and some typescripts. Desk calendars, 1958-1983, and some personal correspondence are included.
