Photocopy of account book of John Bowne concerning his daily business and containing inventories of household effects, specifications for building houses and barns, alterations of rooms, contracts for labor, on-account expenditures of traveling Quakers, and expenses related to building meetinghouses, ca. 1687-1762. Typescript of John Bowne's journal with daily record of his arrest and banishment to Europe, and his successful appeal for freedom of religion. He also detailed his transatlantic voyage, business accounts, and genealogical records, 1650-1694. Original documents include writing book of Lisa H. Bowne, containing poems she used to practice handwriting and her French exercise book, 1882; account and letter book of Joseph Marsh and E.S. Bloomfield emphasizing land transactions on City Island, Bronx, 1877-1899; scrapbook of news clippings concerning New York City events, 1886; volume from yearly Quaker meetings held at Burlington, N.J., containing sermons or addresses, 1704; account book listing names of various individuals, 1705-1843; and Walter Bowne's commonplace book, 1824-1828. Other items are Mary Jourdan's dying sayings, 1762; notebook of poems and compositions written by Caroline Willets, 1851; transcriptions of an account of Parsons and Yates families, 1791; James Parson's ledger, 1776-1801; school lesson book with explanations of mathematical principles, 1774; and typescript of a journal and letters by J.T. Bowne, 1868-1870.
