Material consists of official town archives of Gravesend, as well as old, unofficial documents referring to Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island towns. Official archives of Gravesend include oaths of office for accessors, constables, and others, 1791-1875; assessment roll books, ca.1791-1842; documents for commissioners of common school, ca. 1797-1843; documents for commissioners of excise, ca.1802-1852; and indentures and a court document regarding poor children, ca.1791-1836. Also, mortgages and other land documents for Gravesend, 1830's-1840's. Documents referring to other areas of Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island include printed material; a real estate indenture, 1723; apprenticeship indenture for John Van Sicklen and John Nostrand, 1815; and letters and tickets.
