Military records, diaries, letters, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) records, and ephemera. Military records include muster rolls, enlistment certificates, discharge and pension papers, rosters, and reports of Luther Goodno, Dan S. Giffin, and others. Personal papers include transcript of 1877 memoirs of Joseph M. Knap about his Civil War experiences; original diary of Stephen Thayer, 1864; clippings from published version of Orlando P. Benson's diary and transcripts of his letters, 1861-1863; original letters from Allen Burser to Lucy Sheppard, 1862; and letters by Robert Wade Barrows, 1862-1865. Other items include minutes of Battery D, 1st New York Light Artillery Veterans (Gouverneur, N.Y.), 1887-1915; scrapbook of clippings on the activities of Battery H, 1st New York Light Artillery, 1864-1865, and list of members, 1889; memorial booklet on John Hanson Thompson, 1863; and GAR memorabilia.
