Henry A. (Henry Allan) Gleason (1882-1975) was a taxonomist, ecologist and administrator at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG). His specialty was Melastomataceae. During his career at the NYBG he served as Curator, Head Curator and Assistant Director. He was Acting Director from 1936-1938. Fred Jay Seaver (1877-1970) was a mycologist whose specialty was the taxonomy of the Discomycetes. Elmer Drew Merrill was born in East Auburn, Maine in 1876 and died in 1956. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine in 1898 and his master's in 1904. In 1902 he went to the Philippines where he remained for 21 years as professor of botany at the University of the Philippines and director of the Bureau of Science at Manila. Donald P. Rogers (1908- ), a crypotogamic botanist and mycologist, served as Curator of the NYBG Cryptogamic Herbarium from 1947-1957. His specialty was the toxicology and morphology of Basidiomycetes, particularly Thelephoraceae.
