Papers, [ca.1939]-1966.

Papers include proofs and annotated typescripts and manuscripts of Alfred's plays, poems, and translations including: HOGAN'S GOAT, 1966; "Agamemnon" (an original verse play based on the Greek myth), 1954; and poems: "The Visitation," 1960; and "The Annunciation Rosary." Also included is correspondence with literary figures in which Alfred's work and theirs is discussed. Correspondence took place largely while Alfred was in the Army at Camp Polk, Louisiana. Included are letters from Gertrude Stein, ca.1939-1946; Thomas Mann, 1944-1945; Sigrid Undset, 1944; and a copy of a letter from Alfred to Archibald Macleish, who had been his professor, 1950.
