Louis Marshall papers, 1916-1929.

These papers include extensive correspondence to and from Louis Marshall and other pertinent letters, along with notes and legal papers relating to Adirondack issues. Issues include the constitutionality of road construction and Olympic facilities in the Forest Preserve, dams and river regulation in the Adirondacks and bond issues for acquisition of park lands. Other topics include reforestation, migratory birds and the classification, taxation and regulation of private forest lands. Also included are papers and correspondence dealing mostly with the long-term issue of water power, in particular with the constitutional issues of the 1910's, the regulation and management of Niagara River, and the creation of a water regulation district in the Salmon River area. A few other papers deal with railroad fuel, the building of fire roads and the naming of Adirondack sites.
