Lewin-Franklin correspondence. 1924-1931.

Correspondence between Arthur E. Franklin of London and Louis Lewin, concerning the history of Franklin's family going back to his great-grandfather Emmanuel Samuel, born in 1752, who later left Kempen for England. His descendents included Herbert Samuel, British High Commissioner of Palestine. Most of the letters were written by Franklin. There are also some pages of notes on the Samuel family by Lewin, and some apparent newspaper clippings.

Herbert Louis Samuel was a British statesman, who held many posts and became the Liberal leader in the House of Lords. Born in Liverpool to a successful German-Jewish banker, he graduated from Balliol College, Oxford, with a first in history.
