Frederic Prokosch (1908-1989), poet and novelist, was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on 17 May 1908. He spent his childhood in the United States, Germany, France and Austria, and attended Haverford College and Yale. His most famous work is his first novel, The Asiatics (1935). He also wrote poetry, translations and an autobiography. From the early 1930s, Prokosch printed copies of his own work and that of other writers.
