Ciphering Book, 1812-1818.

Handwritten arithmetic book compiled mostly by James Bell in 1812 and also by Thomas Bell in 1818. The rules and computations illustrate various mathematical problems especially fractions, multiplication, division and currency conversion. Probably from Kentucky where blank volume was purchased from bookbinder and stationer William Essex of Lexington.
