Civil War letter of Imri A. Spencer, 1863 Feb. 11.

Letter from Imri A. Spencer, to his father, recounting an attack by the Federal army at the Rapidan River, Va., on February 6th, and expressing his disappointment in his commanding officers: "Whiskey had complete command of the troops the day of that fight." The Union army crossed the river at several fords but then met resistance from the Confederate forces and on the night of February 7th, the Federal army stopped their attack and withdrew.
