William L. Finley photographs [graphic], circa 1900-1949.

Photographs and negatives taken by William L. Finley (1876-1953), a pioneer wildlife photographer who specialized in photographs of birds and worked as the Oregon State Game Warden (1911-1917), Oregon State Biologist (1917-1919), and Oregon Fish and Game Commissioner (1926-1930). The images date from circa 1900-1949 and mostly depict birds of Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Oregon and their habitats. Other photographs document Finley's camera equipment and techniques used to make the photographs. Some of the photographs were also taken by Finley's associate, Herman T. Bohlman, as well as his wife, Nellie Irene Barnhart Finley, and Arthur Pack, Alex Walker, and N. W. McMillen. This collection is only partially processed.

Herman Theodore Bohlman was born on April 15, 1872 in Portland, Oregon, and lived there all of his life. He was a lifelong friend of William L. Finley, renowned ornithologist, naturalist, and conservationist. Bohlman and Finley were co-founders of the North-Western Ornithological Association in 1894.
