Letters written while Hightower was a student at Randolph-Macon College, Boydton, Va., 1859-1860, and while serving in the Confederate Army. The majority of the collection concerns Hightower's college life, but his Civil War letters discuss various skirmishes under Stonewall Jackson's command.
