Dr. Frederick Gilman Scovel (1902-) and Myra Scott Scovel (1905-1994) served the United Presbyterian Church as medical missionaries in China from 1930 to 1951 and in India from 1953 to 1959. In China, the Scovels worked at Bachman Hunter Hospital in Tsining, Shandong, China and remained there for fifteen years until they were repatriated in 1943 after a period in a Japanese internment camp. Harold Loucks was born in 1894, and graduated with a M. D. from Western Reserve University. In 1922 he became an assistant resident in surgery at the Peking Union Medical College, and in 1930 became the head of the surgery department there.
