Glamorous night [collection] : a romantic play with music / by Ivor Novello ; lyrics by Christopher Hassall. 1935-1970.

Arranged in two groups: I. Promptbooks (9). II. Dialogue parts (114). All materials are in typescript, although the title page indicates publication by Chappell & Co., London. The title pages of the promptbooks give information about the London production at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, produced by Leontine Sagan, and running from May 2, 1935 to November 30, 1935. Set designer, choreographer, orchestrator, stage director, stage manager, and the complete cast (including chorus and dancers) are listed. The promptbooks vary in completeness. Copies 1-5 are the most complete and include more characters, synopsis of scenery, list of musical numbers, time sheet, stage manager's cue plot, pamphonic cue sheet for effects records, lighting plot, properties, and wardrobes (ladies and gentlemen). Dialogue parts exist for all characters listed on the more complete version of promptbook, except for Radio artistes, the Prince, the Princess, and the Aide-de-Camp, plus there are parts for several minor characters not listed.

Ivor Novello (1893-1951) was born in Cardiff, Wales, to David Davies and Clare Novello Davies, a vocal teacher. Musically active as a child, he learned songs from his mother's many famous clients and showed an early talent for writing songs, having his first work published at age 15. He moved to London in 1913, and quickly became a favorite of Sir Edward Marsh, a well-known patron of the arts.
