James Wiley Edwards was a native of Missouri who came to West Feliciana Parish, La., where he married Sallie Thoms Harris around 1867. He later moved to East Feliciana Parish, then to Texas. Louisiana's unit of local government is the parish rather than the county. When Louisiana was purchased from France in 1803, the portion that is now approximately the State of Louisiana was called the Orleans Territory.
