Oral history interview with Ghent Sanderford, 1967 May 8 and July 3.

Interview with Ghent Sanderford, an attorney and the former private secretary to Governor Miriam A. Ferguson from 1925 to 1927 and 1933 to 1935. Sanderford discusses his relationship with James E. Ferguson and he comments on Governors Pat Neff, Dan Moody, James Allred, W. Lee O'Daniel, and Coke Stevenson. He also talks about the Johnson-Stevenson senatorial race of 1948 and the impeachment of James Ferguson.

Miriam Amanda Wallace (Ma) Ferguson (1875-1961), first female Governor of Texas, was born in Bell County, Texas, on June 13, 1875. She attended Salado College and Baylor Female College at Belton. In 1899, she married James Edward Ferguson. From 1915 to 1917, Mrs. Ferguson served as the first lady of Texas until her husband's impeachment during his second administration.
