Five of these seven photographs depict watercolor views of Albany, NY between 1805-1814 painted by James Eights. Various locations portrayed include Fort Fredrick, the west side of Pearl Street (2 views), the west side of North Pearl Street, and the Jacob Vanderheyden Palace. Also photographed is a lithograph of Church Street and a pulpit in the North (First) Reformed Dutch Church. Each photo is mounted on cardboard and signed in pencil by Augustus Pruyn. Typewritten captions appear on the back of each photograph.

James Eights (1798-1882) was a topographical and scientific draftsman who spent much of his life in Albany, NY. Besides his work as a scientific artist for the Erie Canal geographical surveys, Eights was best known for his watercolor depictions of Albany, NY as it was in 1805-1807. Since Eights was less than 10 years old in 1805, he based his works on drawings rendered by other artists. Many of Eights' watercolors were published as lithographs between 1847-1854.
