The William Cyril O'Driscoll, M.D. Papers, 1865-1951, 5.65 cubic feet, consist largely of Dr. O'Driscoll's teaching materials, and also include a small amount of administrative and personal records. The collection is arranged alphabetically, according to Dr. O'Driscoll's original filing structure, however, the personal and administrative records have been arranged as a separate series for organizational purposes. Miscellaneous (1865-1951), .5 cubic feet: This series includes correspondence, information on the O'Driscoll family, Dr. O'Driscoll's military career, his duties as librarian of the Medical Society of South Carolina, and administrative records relating to his position on the faculty of the Medical College of the State of South Carolina. Teaching Materials (1907-1948), 4.15 cubic feet: This series contains lecture notes, anatomical drawings, diagrams, and cutouts created by Dr. O'Driscoll, as well as work created by Dr. O'Driscoll's students. Also included are lecture notes, exam questions, bookplates, and instructions on mounting bones and creating anatomical drawings. The materials are largely undated. The following collection has been merged into MSS 759: MSS 703 Letter from Olin Chamberlin to William Cyril O'Driscoll, 1942 Printed materials from the collection have been cataloged separately.

William Cyril O'Driscoll was born in Charleston in 1881. He attended the South Carolina Military Academy (which became the Citadel in 1910), and graduated from the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in 1905. Dr. O'Driscoll was a professor of anatomy at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina for 53 years, where he was known as a gifted and charismatic teacher.
