Wisconsin State Prison financial reports, 1916-1955.

Annual financial reports for the Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun, 1916-1923 (in Box 1), and separate reports for the prison's binder twine plant, 1916-1955 (in Box 1-2). Included for each type of report are trial balances, account balances, statements of profit and loss, inventories, and analyses of sales and quantities produced. Both reports also include information about various costs associated with prison labor.

The Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun was opened in July 1851. It was under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Supervisors (WIHV87-A1267) in 1881, then the State Board of Control (WIHV85-A2106) in 1891. Until the opening of the Women's Prison at Taycheedah (see WIHV88-A50) in 1933, it served as a maximum security facility for both men and women and since then for men only. The State Board of Control was created by Chapter 221, Laws of 1891, as the State Board of Control of Wisconsin Reformatory, Charitable and Penal Institutions.
