A collection of Wisconsin newspaper clippings, mainly from the Oshkosh City Times, containing recollections by George Hyer and others of persons and events, chiefly in the Fox River valley, from 1830 to 1860. Included are a description of life in Green Bay in 1830; an account of the removal of the garrison from Fort Howard to Fort Winnebago in 1831; recollections of events in the Black Hawk War and of occurrences at Fort Winnebago; an account of the building of the military road; sketches of the Stockbridge, Brotherton, and Menominee Indian tribes, of the chief Oshkosh, and of Indian customs; a short account of the early history of Winnebago County; and comments on entries in the docket book of Justice of the Peace Jacques Porlier, 1820-1824.
