Papers of James McCall, one of the three commissioners appointed in 1830 to locate an area near Green Bay, Wis., for the resettlement of New York Indians. Includes is a letter from John H. Eaton of the Department of War to Commissioners Erastus Root and McCall discussing a treaty at Butte des Morts between Menominees, Winnebagos, and the New York Indians and the problems that arose, June 9, 1830; a letter to Eaton enclosing a report by McCall and Root; a letter from William B. Hunt to Thomas McKinney accepting a position as commissioner; the original and a transcription of a journal kept by McCall, June-Sept. 1830; biographical sketches of McCall; and an 1880 letter from Ansel J. McCall.
