Photocopies and transcriptions of thirteen letters from John Coad, one of the Cornish Americans from Mineral Point, Wis. who went to Grass Valley, California in the 1850's to work in the gold fields, written primarily to his wife during a two year separation, describing economic hardships and the condition of family and friends and advising his wife on situations in Mineral Point; also two letters written by Charles Strongman, his brother-in-law, from Placerville, California, and photographs of family tombstones. The letters have been compiled and transcribed by Josephine G. Nattkemper, a descendant, who has added genealogical and historical information relevant to the letters.
