Owain J. Hughes scrapbook, 1938-1943.

Scrapbook compiled by Lt. Col. Owain J. Hughes, Army Corps of Engineers, who participated in the construction of the Alaska-Canada Highway in 1942. Included are 39 photographs of Hughes in the Army (1938-1943) and in Alaska during the project, a booklet about the Alaska Highway, newspaper articles and several copies of the Alcan Dispatch (1942), correspondence from Hughes to his daughters, ephemera from the Alcan dedication ceremony, and 3 maps. Also included are three engineering blueprints of a device for the construction of bridges (1884, 1901) designed for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway company, by Hughes' father, Owain Thomas Hughes, a carpenter from Watertown (Wis.).
