Records of the Committee Against Registration and the Draft (CARD), founded in 1979 in Washington, D.C. The records in this collection are from the files of Gillam Kerley, executive director of CARD. Kerley was convicted of failing to register for the draft and served time in prison before his sentence was overturned. CARD was committed to educating people about draft resistance and planning several initiatives to counter mandatory registration by the Selective Service. Files contain CARD literature, flyers, pamphlets, information on activities, and a few office files, as well as material from other related activist organizations such as the National Council to Repeal the Draft (NCRD).
