James Dixon Black became Kentucky's governor in 1919 after Governor A. O. Stanley became United States senator. Black completed the last seven months of Stanley's term as governor of Kentucky. Black was born in 1849 to James C. and Clarissa Jones Black in Knox County, Kentucky.
