In two letters written a day apart, and following the Nat Turner insurrection by five days, Floyd wrote to ask Colonel Davidson to reassure the citizens of Petersburg that "all is becoming tranquil." Floyd stated that General Eppes had in fact released part of the troops sent to quell the rebellion.
