Diary, 1864 Jan. 13-Dec. 25.

Hill records his interest in and appointment as sutler for the 58th Pennsylvania Volunteers stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He writes briefly of his travels to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Maryland, and Bermuda Hundred, Virginia. He mentions frequent visits with his friend Dr. T. M. Hills, then of Norfolk, and correspondence with Miss Rosalie F. Davis of New York to whom, he gave his property if he died. He notes a Confederate attack on July 16. Also included are a list of goods received of Mr. Wiggins, the names and addresses of his suppliers, other sutlers, and wagonmasters, and the hours of the boat operating between Norfolk and Fort Monroe.
